Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 cup fine rava / suji / semolina.
  2. 1/2 cup curd.
  3. 1/2 cup beetroot puree[ strain to have a smooth puree].
  4. 1 tbsp ginger chilli paste.
  5. salt to taste.
  6. 1 tsp fruit salt.
  7. for tempering: 1 tbsp oil
  8. 1 tsp mustard seeds
  9. 1 tsp sesame seeds.
  10. Few curry leaves.
  11. 2-3 fresh green and red chillies .
  12. for garnishing: 1/2 cup hung curd.
  13. freshly chopped coriander leaves.


  1. In a bowl mix rava , ginger chilli paste, curd, beetroot puree and salt.
  2. mix well and make a thick batter.
  3. cover it and keep aside for around 15 mins.
  4. mix well , if you feel batter is too thick add little puree or water.
  5. add fruit salt and mix well.
  6. Take a greased mould [ preferably round or heart shaped].
  7. pour the batter in it , tap it properly to evenly spread the batter.
  8. Steam it for 15- 20 mins on medium flame.
  9. check with the toothpick after 20 mins turn off the gas.
  10. allow it to cool and then demould.
  11. now take the hung curd , add pinch of salt to it.
  12. spread this evenly on the red velvet dhokla.
  13. heat oil in a pan , add mustard seeds, sesame seeds, red and green chillies , curry leaves.
  14. spread the tempering on the prepared dhokla.
  15. garnish with the freshly chopped coriander leaves.
