Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. For the koftes :
  2. Grated bottle gourd - 1.5 cups
  3. Chopped onion - 1
  4. Chopped ginger - 1 tsp
  5. Chopped green chillies - 1 tbsp
  6. Red chilly powder - 1/4 th tsp
  7. Besan - 1/4 th cup
  8. Rice flour - 2 tbsp
  9. Salt
  10. Refined oil (for frying)
  11. For the Gravy :
  12. Chopped onion - 1
  13. Chopped tomatoes - 2
  14. Ginger Garlic Paste - 1 tsp
  15. Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  16. Chilly powder - 1/2 tsp
  17. Kashmiri Chilly powder - 1/2 tsp
  18. Jeera Powder - 1/2 tsp
  19. Garam Masala powder - 1/2 tsp
  20. Curd - 3 tbsp
  21. Salt
  22. Refined oil
  23. Coriander leaves - handful

Instructions

  1. Grate the bottle gourd and keep it aside for 10 minutes. This will allow all the extra water to come out.
  2. Now squeeze the bottle gourd which was grated and mix all the ingredients except the oil, mentioned under "for koftes".
  3. Heat ample amount of oil in a wok and make small balls out of the above thick batter and deep fry them in hot oil, keep aside.
  4. To make the gravy, heat another pan with little oil.
  5. Add chopped onion and saute till golden brown.
  6. Then add the ginger garlic paste and saute for few seconds followed by the tomatoes.
  7. Stir for few minutes and then add all the powdered masalas and salt.
  8. Lower the flame and cook with a lid on with occasional stirring till the tomatoes are mushy.
  9. Then add the curd while continuously stirring the masala.
  10. Cook till the masala leaves oil, then add water for the gravy.
  11. Bring upto boil and then add the koftes.
  12. Finally sprinkle the coriander leaves, check for salt and serve.
