Strawberry Jam

Ingredients to make Strawberry Jam

  • 250 gms fresh strawberries
  • 1 1/4th cup sugar
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • Zest of 1 lemon

How to make Strawberry Jam

  1. Rinse and hull the berries.
  2. Mash the strawberries with a potato masher or blender to obtain desired consistency.
  3. Place the berries,sugar,zest,and lemon juice in a big pan.Stir well until well combined.
  4. Bring the berries to a boil.Stir frequently to avoid sugar from scorching.
  5. Cook on sim for 10-15 minutes.Stir often when the mixture is reducing.
  6. To know if the jam is done,do a plate test by taking a spoonful of jam on a plate.Let it cool.If it sets on cooling it means the jam is done.

My Tip:

Lemon is used as it is acidic and helps balance the sugar in jam. It is high in pectin which is crucial to thicken jam
