A Hyderabadi most popular street food. This is mostly served at tea time.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Gram flour or besan 2 cups
  2. Green chillies long 1/2 kg
  3. salt to taste
  4. Red chilli powder 1& 1/2 tbsp
  5. turmeric 2 pinches
  6. asafoetida 2 pinches
  7. ginger garlic paste 1 tbsp
  8. For stuffing:
  9. tamarind paste 6 tbsp
  10. Roasted and coarsely ground cumin seeds 1 tsp
  11. Roasted and coarsely ground coriander seeds 1 tbsp
  12. Chat masala 1 tsp
  13. Garam masala 1 tsp
  14. oil for frying


  1. Make a thick batter using all the ingredients listed under it.
  2. Keep aside for 30 minutes at the least.
  3. I did not add any baking soda in it.
  4. The standing time given to the batter makes it fluffy and porous.
  5. Therefore it should be rested for a minimum of 30 minutes.
  6. Wash and slit the chillies from the centre.
  7. Remove the white stalk and the seeds from them.
  8. Prepare the stuffing by mixing all the ingredients
  9. Fill in this stuffing in each of them carefully.
  10. Meanwhile, keep a kadhai with enough oil to fry.Heat it.
  11. Dip each in the batter and coat all the sides evenly with it.
  12. Drop carefully in hot oil and keep the flame on medium to high.
  13. Fry in batches.
  14. Serve them hot with any chutney of your choice.
