A Favourite dish among the punjabis enjoyed with the favorite Makki ki roti

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. mustard greens 750 grams (sarson ka saag)
  2. spinach 250 grams
  3. red chilli powder 1 tsp
  4. 1 small onion (finely chopped)
  5. butter 60 grams
  6. 1 tsp ginger (finely chopped)
  7. water 1 cup
  8. salt to taste
  9. 1 tbsp maize flour(makki ka atta)


  1. Wash and clean mustard greens and spinach very well and finely chop them
  2. In a pan, add water and bring it to boil. Add the greens, chilli powder, maize flour and half finely chopped ginger. Stir well and cook until done, about 30-40 mins, alternately you can pressure cook it.Let cool and grind coarsely in a blender.
  3. In another wok, heat butter; add sliced onions and the remaining ginger and saute for 2 mins. Add the greens and stir well
  4. Serve hot, garnished with butter

generally bathua is added instead of spinach in sarson ka saag, spinach spoils the taste....
