ABOUT Watermelon Rind Dosa RECIPE

We usually consume the pinkish and red part of the fruit and throw away the rest. You will be amazed to see the result after making this recipe and you will never hereafter throw away the rinds any more. To get Red colour I used the Reddish portion too.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. water melon rinds 2 cups with some red pieces
  2. Idli rice / Par boiled rice/ Puzhungal arisi 3 cups
  3. Poha / Aval / Beaten rice 3 cups
  4. fenugreek / Venthayam 1 tea spoon
  5. salt to taste
  6. oil for making dosas


  1. Wash the rice well and soak it with fenugreek for three hours. After three hours add the watermelon rind pieces and red pieces to the mixie jar and grind them to juice. Keep the juice in a bowl.
  2. Wash the Poha well and drain the water out. Drain the water out from the soaked rice too. Mix the rice and poha together and add them to the mixie jar.
  3. Grind to fine batter to dosa batter consistency adding the watermelon juice instead of water. If the batter is thick after using the juice, then add water . Add salt, mix well and allow to ferment for overnight or 8 hours.
  4. Now the batter is ready for making dosas as we do regular dosa. Serve it hot with any chutney and milagai podi .
