This recipe is from Kerala. This can be made with sambhar onion also. This is one of the easiest recipes i have come across and one of my favorites.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Onion - 3 large
  2. Green chilly - 4 to 5
  3. Coconut cut into thin small slices - 3 tbsp
  4. Coconut scraped - half cup
  5. Curry leaves - few
  6. fennel seeds - 1 tsp
  7. Chilly powder - 1/2 tsp
  8. Coriander powder - 1 tsp
  9. Turmeric Powder - 1/4 Tsp
  10. Mustard - 1 tsp
  11. Garam masala - 1/2 tsp

Instructions

  1. Slice the onions into small thin pieces.
  2. Cut the green chillies into small round pieces.
  3. Pulse the coconut in a mixer with the fennel seeds, turmeric powder, chiily powder and coriander powder and keep aside. Just pulse it for a few seconds.
  4. Heat oil in a kadai and add the mustard seeds and let it splutter.
  5. Next add the onion, green chillies, sliced coconut and curry leaves and saute well for a few minutes.
  6. Then add the pulsed coconut mix and cover n cook for 2 to 3 minutes.
  7. Now remove the lid n add the garam masala n saute for a few minutes.
  8. The onion should not be cooked too much...it should be little crunchy.
  9. Remove from fire and it is ready to be served with rice.
