Kanda batata rassa is an indispensable part of maharashtrian thali. This is one kind of curry loved by all and really easy to make with simple ingredients. Typically kanda batata rassa is served with steaming hot puffed puries in traditional parties in maharashtra. It goes well with chapati/ paratha or rice also.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Onion 2 medium
  2. Potato 2 medium
  3. Tomato 2 medium
  4. Oil 1 tablespoon
  5. For tempering: cumin and mustard seeds, curry leaves, asafotida
  6. Ginger Garlic paste 2 teaspoon
  7. Red chilly powder 1 teaspoon
  8. Turmeric powder 1/4 teaspoon
  9. Garam masala 1/2 teaspoon
  10. Goda masala 1/2 teaspoon
  11. Jaggery 1 teaspoon
  12. Tamarind 1/2 inch
  13. Peanuts 2 tablespoon
  14. Dry coconut grated 2 tablespoon
  15. Salt to taste
  16. Coriander for garnishing

Instructions

  1. Cut onion long and tomato into fine pieces
  2. Cut potatoes in medium pieces . I have cut them long. You can cut in any size per shape you like
  3. In a vessel heat oil and add tempering
  4. Add ginger garlic paste and saute well
  5. Add onion and saute well
  6. Add tomatoes
  7. Cook till tomatoes are soft
  8. Now add potatoes
  9. Mix well and add red chilly powder, turmeric and garam masala
  10. Mix well and cook covered till potatoes are soft
  11. Once potatoes are fork tender, add tamarind, jaggery, peanut powder and grated coconut. We add coconut and peanut to give thickness and richness to gravy.
  12. Add 2 cups of water and cook
  13. Add coriander and salt amd cook till boil
