Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Pomfret fish 4 pieces
  2. Onion 3 (divided, half sliced and half ground to paste)
  3. Tomatoes 2 (chopped)
  4. Green chili 1 (cut lengthwise)
  5. Ginger garlic paste 1 tsp
  6. Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
  7. Red chili powder 1 and 1/2 tsp
  8. Coriander powder 1 and 1/2 tsp
  9. Garam masala powder 1/2 tsp
  10. Salt as required
  11. Chopped Coriander leaves 2 tbsp
  12. Vegetable oil 4 tbsp
  13. For marinating thr fish:
  14. Red Chili Powder 1 Tsp
  15. Turmeri powder 1/4 tsp
  16. Crushed fennel seeds 3/4 tsp
  17. Salt as required
  18. Ginger Garlic paste 1/2 tsp

Instructions

  1. Marinate the fish pieces using red chili powder, turmeric powder, salt, crushed fennel seeds and ginger garlic paste.
  2. Allow to rest for about 15-20 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile, make a paste out of 1 and 1/2 onion. Keep it aside.
  4. Slice the rest of the onion in Julienne cut. Keep it aside.
  5. Next heat 3 tbsp oil in a pan.
  6. Fry the marinated fish pieces in the oil.
  7. Once done, remove from pan and keep them aside.
  8. Next add 1 more tbsp of oil to the same pan.
  9. Add the sliced onions and saute until they turn light golden brown in color.
  10. Once done, remove from pan and keep it aside.
  11. Next, to the same pan add the onion paste and ginger garlic paste.
  12. Saute until the raw smell goes off.
  13. Next simmer the flame and add the turmeric powder, red chili powder, and coriander powder and mix well.
  14. Then add the chopped tomatoes and saute until they turn soft.
  15. Add the green chili too.
  16. Now add water and allow to boil.
  17. Add salt as required.
  18. When the gravy boils, add the sauteed onions.
  19. Add the fried fish pieces too.
  20. Add the chopped coriander leaves and garam masala powder and mix well.
  21. Close the lid and cook covered for 2-3 minutes.
  22. Once done, switch the flame off and serve hot with rice or roti.
