ABOUT Dakor Na Methi Gota RECIPE

A protein and iron rich must have snack to be cooked during the winter and rainy season. This is a speciality of the holy town Dakor in Gujarat, and it goes well with a hot cup of masala tea.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 2 cup Chickpea Flour (coarse)
  2. 1 cup instant oats
  3. 1 and 1/2 cup fresh fenugreek leaves finely chopped
  4. 5 green chillies finely chopped
  5. 8 peppercorn roughly crushed
  6. 2 tsp coriander seeds roughly crushed
  7. 1/4 tsp carom seeds ( Ajwain)
  8. 4 tsp sesame seeds
  9. 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  10. 2 cups yogurt (sour)
  11. 1/4 tsp baking soda
  12. Oil for frying
  13. Salt to taste
  14. 1/4 tsp sugar

Instructions

  1. Wash, clean then finely chop the fenugreek leaves.
  2. Mix the chickpea flour and instant oats in a bowl. Add in all the ingredients except yogurt, baking soda and oil.
  3. Mix well, then add yogurt and make a semi solid batter. You can add a little water if it is too thick.
  4. Keep it aside for 15 minutes. Whisk it well till bubbles form.
  5. Heat oil in a frying pan. Once it is hot take 2 tbsp of the oil and pour it into the batter. Add baking soda and mix it with a spatula.
  6. Take a handful of batter and slowly drop small balls in the hot oil. Let them fry till they turn golden brown in colour.
  7. Transfer on absorbent paper to remove the excess oil.
  8. Serve hot with masala tea and fried green chillies.
