Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Fish fillets - 8
  2. Tamarind - 1 big lemon size ball
  3. Pearl onions - 10
  4. Tomato - 1
  5. Garlic pods - 6
  6. Coriander powder - 1.5 tsp
  7. Red chilli powder - 2 tsp
  8. Curry leaves - 1 sprig
  9. To grind : Pepper corns - 1/2 tsp
  10. Cumin seeds - each 1/2 tsp
  11. Pearl onions - 5
  12. Garlic pods - 3
  13. Coriander powder - 1/2 tsp
  14. Red chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
  15. To temper : Gingelly oil - 2 tbsp
  16. Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  17. Urad dal - 1/2 tsp
  18. Fenugreek seeds - 1/4 tsp
  19. Jeera - 1/4 tsp
  20. Curry leaves a few

Instructions

  1. Soak the tamarind in hot water & extract the juice from it.
  2. Grind the ingredients given under 'to grind ' to a fine paste.
  3. Heat oil in a vessel temper the ingredients given under 'to temper', then add chopped onion, chopped tomato, garlic pods one by one. Saute it well.
  4. Then add the masala paste, coriander & red chilli powder, saute it well until the raw smell goes away.
  5. Add the tamarind juice, salt &and boil it very well.
  6. Once the raw smell goes away add the cleaned fish fillets to the gravy, boil it for another 5 minutes, then add few curry leaves. Turn off the flame.
