ABOUT Creamy Ven Pongal RECIPE

Ven pongal is a simple and tasty dish. The use of milk makes dish creamy and even tastier than basic recipe which does not need any side dish or even a pickle along with it to eat. I just love this version. Do give it a try.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Rice 1 cup
  2. Moong dal (green split dal) 1 cup
  3. Milk 2 cups
  4. Water 2 cups
  5. For the tempering
  6. Ghee 4 tablespoon
  7. Mustard seeds 1/2 tablespoon
  8. Cumin seeds 1/2 tablespoon
  9. Pepper corn 6 to 8
  10. Cashew 8 to 10
  11. Ginger 1 tablespoon (finely choped)
  12. Green chilli 5
  13. Curry leaves 1 spring
  14. Coarinder finely chopped 1 table spoon

Instructions

  1. Roast the moong dal slightly, wash rice and dal together.
  2. Add 2 cups water and 2 cups milk in a washed dal and rice and pressure cook for 4 whistles in medium flame. Wait till the pressure gets released by its own, open and mash.
  3. In a pan add ghee when hot, add mustard seeds and let splutter. Add cumin seeds.
  4. Add pepper corn, cashew, ginger, curry leaves and green chillies. Let it fry for a while.
  5. Add termeric and mix tempering into pongal mixure.
  6. Add water, mix well and add coriander leaves. Let it boil for 5 minutes.
  7. Tasty creamy pongal is ready to serve.
