ABOUT Meethay Ghoday - A Hyderabadi Specialty RECIPE

Meethay Ghoday is a traditional Hyderabadi specialty I tried from Mona's blog. This sweet calls for a simple dough which is rolled into a thin disc, then cut into squares and shaped into flower shaped pieces. Once done with the dough, let them dry for more than 6 hours or overnight. Once well dried, the flower shaped are deep fried.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. 1+1/2cups Maida
  2. 1/4tsp Salt
  3. 1tbsp Oil (for dough)
  4. Oil for frying
  5. 1/2cup Water
  6. 2cups Milk
  7. 1cup Sugar
  8. Sliced almonds (fried)

Instructions

  1. Take the flour, salt, oil in a bowl, add little water at a time to make a dough. Cover with a damp towel and keep aside for half an hour.
  2. Then knead again for few minutes until the dough turns smooth, firm and pliable. Divide the dough into 3equal sized pieces, roll a piece as a ball between your palms.
  3. Using a rolling pin, roll each ball into a disc.
  4. Make the discs as thin as possible and use less flour to roll them thinly, cut the dough into small squares with a knife. Shape each square into a flower by bringing the edges together to center.
  5. Continue until the dough gets finished. Leave the flower shaped dough on the tray for atleast 6hours or overnite, i left mine overnite.
  6. Next day, heat oil for frying. Once the oil is hot, fry the dried flower shaped dough until they turns crispy. In a heavy bottomed pan, take the milk, water and heat it, add the fried flowers and cook in simmer for 15mins.
  7. Finally add the sugar and mix, add more water if need to cook them more. Once done, add the shallow fried sliced almonds. Serve at room temperature.
