This beautiful dish is a mughlai preparation with a twist.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 small onion chopped and sauted in butter
  2. 1 and 1/2 cup toor dal
  3. 1 tablespoon turmeric powder
  4. 1 tablespoon yogurt
  5. 1 tablespoon chilli powder
  6. 1 tablespoon garam masala
  7. 1 medium sized tomato chopped
  8. 2 tablespoon ghee
  9. 1 and 1/2 teaspoon jeera seeds
  10. salt to taste
  11. 2 green chillies chopped
  12. 2 big cloves of garlic finely chopped
  13. coriander leaves for garnishing


  1. Take the pressure cooker, saute the onions in a little ghee and add the dal along with 3 and half cups of water.
  2. Add to it chilli powder,turmeric powder and salt.
  3. Once the steam from the pressure cooker dies, open it carefully and set to a medium heat on a gas stove. Add tomatoes and cook it for a few minutes.
  4. Turn the heat down and add garam masala and yogurt.The low heat will prevent the curd from breaking down.
  5. While the dal is simmering, get the tadka ready by heating ghee in a small pan.
  6. Once it is heated add green chillies, garlic and cumin seeds.
  7. Just as the garlic turns brown add the tadka into the dal and turn off the heat. Then close the lid.
  8. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve immediately.

I've tried it with ghee instead of butter and it came out well.. Taste good with rotis.. Thank u.... :blush:
