Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. 250 gms parboiled basmati rice
  2. 500 gms prawns : clean and dried
  3. 3 medium onion paste
  4. ginger garlic paste 1 teaspoon
  5. curd : 150 gms
  6. For masala : garam masala 1/2 teaspoon
  7. haldi : 1/2 teaspoon
  8. salt to taste
  9. 1 teaspoon sugar
  10. For garnishing :
  11. Deep fried onion rings
  12. Diced tomatoes
  13. Green chillies whole


  1. Cook the previously soaked rice separately, leave it slightly uncooked . Strain and let it cool
  2. In a wok : heat vegetable oil plus 2 teaspoon butter .
  3. Add onion paste , saute till golden brown
  4. Add ginger garlic paste , all masala , salt and sugar . Cook until the masala leaves oil.
  5. Add prawns and stir fry on medium flame for 9 minutes only.
  6. Once done keep it aside.
  7. In a vessel with heavy bottom , layer the rice and prawns , similar to biriyani layering.
  8. On the top , sprinkle fried onion , whole green chilli, some oil and water mixed. Seal the lid.
  9. Put the vessel on very low flame and dum it for about 15 mins.
  10. Allow the steam to settle. Open the lid , garnish and serve with curd as side dish.
