ABOUT Butter Chicken RECIPE

Most famous North Indian non vegetarian dish where Chicken is cooked in rich creamy gravy.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Chicken - 700 gm
  2. Curd - 250 gm
  3. Butter - 150 gm
  4. Onion - 2 (sliced)
  5. Tomato - 2
  6. Chopped coriander leaves -1 tbsp
  7. Garlic cloves - 4 or 5
  8. Garlic paste- 1 tbsp
  9. Ginger paste- 1 tbsp
  10. Chicken masala-1 tsp
  11. Red chilli powder-1tsp
  12. Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
  13. Garam masala powder- 1/2 tsp
  14. Cashew+almond - 1/3 cup soaked in milk
  15. Fresh cream- 2 tbsp
  16. Kashmiri red chilli powder-1/2tsp
  17. Kasuri methi - 1/2 tsp
  18. Orange food colour - a pinch
  19. Salt
  20. oil


  1. For marination - wash Chicken pieces gently and remove skin. Add ginger paste, garlic paste, turmeric powder, chilli powder, Chicken masala, curd, salt and food colour. Keep in refrigerator overnight.
  2. For gravy - Heat oil in pan. Put sliced onions and fry. Add peeled garlic and some chopped coriander leaves and saute.
  3. Add chopped tomatoes and cook for sometimes. Remove from fire and let it cool. Grind this mixture with soaked almonds and cashews.
  4. For Chicken - Heat 50 gm butter in pan. Put Marinated Chicken in pan and cook on low flame till it semi done. No need to add water.
  5. For gravy - Heat remaining 100 gm butter in another pan. Put kasuri methi in butter. Add grounded masalas for gravy in pan. Add salt, garam masala and kashmiri mirch.
  6. Cook on high flame for 2 minutes. Add cooked Chicken and half of cream. Cook on low flame till Chicken will done.
  7. Garnish with coriander leaves and remaining cream Rich creamy butter Chicken is ready.
