ABOUT Til ka khatta RECIPE

This is one of the side dishes that always accompanies a Hyderabadi Khichdi. Everyone loves to have atleast one of the dishes to be tangy in Hyderabad and Telangana regions.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Marble sized tamarind - soaked (with thick juice extracted)
  2. Water to dilute the tamarind extract
  3. Salt to taste
  4. 2 teaspoons of roasted sesame seeds (powdered)
  5. 1 small sized onion - diced
  6. Oil for tempering
  7. 1 sprig of curry leaves
  8. 3 dried red chillies
  9. 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds
  10. A pinch of turmeric powder.

Instructions

  1. Mix together the tamarind extract, water, sesame seeds powder, salt. Stir it well together.
  2. Heat oil in a pan. Add in cumin seeds and fry for 5 seconds. Then add curry leaves followed by dry red chillies. Fry for another 5 seconds.
  3. Next, add in onion and fry till they turn translucent in colour. Add in turmeric powder and continue stirring.
  4. Finally add the diluted tamarind extract. Boil for 2-3 minutes and switch off the gas.
  5. Serve warm as a side for khichdi for best taste.
