ABOUT Raw Cucumber Gojju/ Sautekayi Hasi Gojju RECIPE

This is a traditional dish from Karnataka. I learnt this from my mom and here is my version.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 1 Cucumber finely cut
  2. 2 tsp Urad dal / Black Gram
  3. 3 tsp Channa dal / Bengal Gram
  4. 5 Dry red chillies
  5. 6 tsp Sesame Seeds / Til
  6. 1/2 (lemon size) Tamarind
  7. 1/3 tsp Fenugreek/ Methi seeds
  8. 3/4 tsp Cumin / Jeera
  9. A pinch of Hing / Asafoetida
  10. Few Curry Leaves
  11. Fresh Coriander chopped

Instructions

  1. Dry roast all the mentioned ingredients except for the cucumber and grind to form a thick fine paste. (Add very less water to grind.) Cut a medium sized cucumber into small pieces, add the masala paste and mix it well.
  2. To make the tadka, heat 1/2 tsp of oil. Add the channa dal,urad dal, mustard seeds, red chilli, curry leaves and hing. Just before serving add in the tadka and salt to taste.
  3. Garnish with fresh coriander and serve with hot steamed rice or chapati/ phulka as desired.
