Dhokla is just such a famous snack, so this is the special Gujrati khaman dhokla for the evening tea.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 1/2 - cup besan
  2. Salt
  3. lemon (1/2)spoon
  4. 3-spoon sugar
  5. Green chili - 2
  6. Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  7. Coriander leaves [few]
  8. fresh coconut grated for garnishing
  9. Baking soda 1/4 spoon
  10. salt


  1. Mix the salt to the besan, and mix it. Then add required amount of water to the besan , whisk it well to form the batter.
  2. Then add the baking soda and lemon juice to the above batter and immediately pour the mixture into a greased plate, and then steam it in a dhokla maker for 15-20 minutes.
  3. To prepare the tadka, heat some oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and let them crackle, then add some salt and sugar along with 2 tbsp of water. Let this boil and pour this tadka over the prepared dhokla.
  4. Now sprinkle generous amount of grated coconut and chopped coriander leaves over the dhokla, cut and serve.
