ABOUT Idiyappam/steamed rice noodles RECIPE

Idiyappam is a common breakfast item of South India. This is easy to make and it is very healthy as it is steamed.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Rice Flour 2 cups
  2. Water 1 cup
  3. Salt
  4. Oil as needed to apply on the idli plate
  5. Grated Coconut 1/2 cup

Instructions

  1. In a pan take the rice flour and fry for 2 minutes.
  2. Transfer the flour to a medium bowl.
  3. Boil water with salt.
  4. Add the hot water to the rice flour and knead into a soft dough.
  5. Heat an idli cooker with little water.
  6. Apply oil to the idli plates.
  7. Sprinkle a little grated coconut on each idli plate.
  8. Take the rice flour dough in an idiyappam/sevai press.
  9. Squeeze the dough through the press on to the idli plate.
  10. Repeat the process for the other idli plates.
  11. Keep the plates into the idli cooker and cook for 5 minutes or until it is done.
  12. Remove from cooker and allow it to cool.
  13. Idiyappam tastes good with coconut milk, potato stew, vegetable kurma, or egg curry.
