About Chicken in Coconut Gravy Recipe

This is a beautiful dish of tender chicken pieces cooked in a goan style coconut gravy. My mom prepares this dish during every feast at home.

Chicken in Coconut Gravy

Ingredients to make Chicken in Coconut Gravy

  • 1 kg chicken (cut into medium size pieces)
  • 1 onion
  • 7 red chillies
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tbsp coriander Seeds
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 6 cloves of garlic
  • 5 cloves
  • 1 inch cinnamon
  • 2 pods of green cardamom
  • 1 cup fresh grated coconut
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp tamarind paste
  • 1 Tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • salt to taste

How to make Chicken in Coconut Gravy

  1. Wash the chicken, apply salt and keep it aside for one hour.
  2. Grind together the coconut, onion, chillies, cumin, coriander seeds, ginger, garlic, cloves, cinnamon and cardamom together with a little water.
  3. Take a vessel, heat oil and add ginger-garlic paste and saute. Then add the ground masala and water to make a gravy.
  4. Add turmeric and chicken pieces, and salt to taste. Simmer and cook till the chicken pieces are cooked.

My Tip:

Even potatoes can be added to this chicken dish.
