ABOUT Amleche God Lonche / Raw Mango sweet & Sour pickle RECIPE

Amleche mel or kairiche god lonche or raw mango sweet and sour pickle is one of the most delicious dips prepared in India. Amli means raw mango in Konkani language . So this pickle is basically prepared out of raw mango. Mango is cooked in jaggery and tempered with spicy tempering which gives it amat god(sweet and sour) taste. The ingredients are basic and the recipe is quite simple.

Ingredients Serving: 10

  1. Raw mango 1 Large
  2. Jaggery + Some water 1 1/2 cup
  3. Chilli powder 1 tsp
  4. Salt 1/4 tsp
  5. Some water
  6. Cooking Oil 1 tbsp
  7. Tempering
  8. Methi Seeds 1/4 tsp
  9. Hing 1/2 tps
  10. Mustard seeds 1 tsp
  11. Slit green chillies 2-3

Instructions

  1. Wash the mango, peel and chop into 1/2 inch length. Add this and 10 tbsp of water in a vessel,cook for 5-7 mins.
  2. Take jaggery in a vessel .Add 3-4 tbsp of water,boil till it it melts completely and thickens. Stirring continously for 7-8 minutes.
  3. Add the cooked mango pieces into jaggery mixture, let it cook on medium high heat for around a minute.
  4. Heat oil in a pan, add all the above tempering ingredients from number 7 in the ingredient list. Cover and remove from heat once mustard starts spluttering.
  5. Remove chillies and with mortar, grind the remaining tempering ingredients to course powder.
  6. Add salt, chilli powder , green chillies and tempering powder to the mango jaggery mixture, mix well. Cook till jaggery thickens, around 10 mins.
  7. Remove from heat and keep it till it cools down completely and enjoy with roti, chapati or any bread.
