These lentil fritters are filled with the delicious goodness of coconut, they are a wonderful treat for chilly winter evenings!

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. 1 cup split channa dal
  2. 1/3 cup fresh coconut pieces
  3. 1 inch ginger
  4. 1/3 tsp roasted cumin-chili powder
  5. 2 pinch baking powder
  6. 2 dry red chilis
  7. 2-3 tsp chopped cilantro
  8. Salt to taste
  9. Oil for deep frying

Instructions

  1. Soak the channa dal for 5-6 hours.
  2. Wash and grind into a thick and coarse paste along with the coconut pieces, dry red chilli and a little water. Add the grated ginger, chopped cilantro, cumin powder and salt to taste.
  3. Heat oil in a wok for deep frying. Shape the paste into small flat circles and put it into the hot oil. (Do not put too many at the same time.)
  4. Cook on both sides till a slight reddish color forms. Remove from the wok and place on a paper towel.
  5. Repeat this process with the remaining dough.
  6. Serve with rice and dalma or even as a snack/starters.
