ABOUT Vada curry RECIPE

Vada curry is delicious south Indian dish which is served in the form of gravy with idli,dosa,chapati,paratha,poori,etc. This will be getting in each and every south Indianhotels.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Soaked and boiled chana 1/2 cup
  2. Chana dal Vadas 8 ( make small pieces
  3. Red chilli powder 1 tsp
  4. coriander powder 1 tsp
  5. Garam masala powder 1 tsp
  6. Ginger 1/2 inch
  7. Green chili 1
  8. Onion 3(medium size chopped
  9. Tomatoes 2(medium size chopped
  10. Garlic pod 4
  11. Poppy seeds 1/2 tsp
  12. Grated dry coconut 1 tbsp
  13. Curry leaves Coriander leaves Oil and Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Soak Chana overnight and boil until become soft with pinch of salt.
  2. Vadas: Soak 1/2 cup chana dal in water fhalf an hour. Drain and grind coarsely adding with 2 red chillies and salt. Heat oil in a kadai, fry all Vadas until turn brown in both sides and keep aside.
  3. Heat 2 tsp oil in a pan, add poppy seeds,fry,add dry coconut (grated) Fry till brown and transfer into a plate. Now again put the pan on flame,add 2 chopped onion,garlic, and saute till onion become transparent. Add ginger,tomatoes,green chilli and saute till become mushy.
  4. Put all ingredients into a mixer jar and grind into paste. Keep aside. Heat the same kadai,add 2 tab sp oil, Add mustard seeds,jeera ,let them crackle. Add one chopped onion,saute till become transparent,add ground paste , chilli powder,daniya powder,gaaram masala powder,haldi powder, pinch of salt and saute until oil leaves the sides.
  5. Add soaked and boiled chana with water,salt as required. Cook until turns thick gravy. Now crush vadas into pieces and add to to the gravy. Mix well and cook for few seconds. switch off the flame
  6. Garnish with curry leaves and coriander leaves. Serve hot with dosa,idli,chapati,poori,etc
