ABOUT Honeycomb Bread RECIPE

Honeycomb Bread is a popular Arabic delicacy,  which is soft and buttery.The bread is filled with cheese and soaked in a sugar syrup.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. For bread
  2. 3 1/2cup All purposes flour
  3. 1 cup milk
  4. 2 tbsp milk powder
  5. 3 tbsp sugar
  6. 1/2cup water as required
  7. 4 tbsp oil
  8. 4 tbsp melted butter
  9. 1/2 tsp Salt
  10. 1 1/2 tsp instant yeast
  11. 1/2 block cheese cubes
  12. 1 egg for egg wash
  13. For sugar syrup
  14. 1 cup sugar
  15. 3/4 cup water
  16. 1 tbsp Honey
  17. Pinch of saffron

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sugar syrup Boil the sugar, water and saffron together for a few minutes until it is slightly thickened.
  2. Remove from the heat and add the honey. Mix and set aside to cool completely
  3. To prepare bread Sieve the flour, then add milk powder, sugar, yeast and salt.
  4. Then add the oil and butter and the egg, and mix together. Now add all the milk.
  5. Start kneading together and gradually add the water a little at a time. until your dough is nice and soft.
  6. Knead for a good 8-10 minutes. The more you knead it the softer the buns will be.
  7. Apply oil and set aside to double in size
  8. Punch it down, and break off tiny bits of dough.Take each balls and fill it with a small piece of cheese in its center and shape it .
  9. Grease pans with butter. Place the balls of dough in a 'honeycomb' pattern and keep it close .again cover and allow it to rise
  10. Now apply egg wash on the balls, preheat your oven to 180 C and bake for about 20-25 minutes, or until the bread is nice and golden on top.
  11. Remove from the oven and pour your syrup all over the hot bread. Remember that the syrup needs to be cool and the bread needs to be steaming hot straight from the oven. Allow it to cool.
