ABOUT LAHSUNI METHI DAL RECIPE

Dals are a basic ingredient of our daily food menu. Dals are almost prepared everyday along with other vegetables or main dishes. The simplicity is dals gives the flexibility to make numerous variations to it and make a different type everytime.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. 1 cup yellow lentil (toor dal)
  2. 2 cups fenugreek leaves fresh
  3. 1 cup tomato chopped
  4. 7 - 8 garlic cloves chopped
  5. 1 onion medium chopped
  6.  tsp turmeric powder
  7. 2 - 3 green chilies (may vary as per preference)
  8. Juice of 1 lemon
  9. 5 cups of water
  10. Salt as per taste
  11. For Tadka:
  12. 8 garlic cloves finely sliced
  13. 4-5 red button chilies or any variety of whole red chili
  14. 2 tbsp oil/ghee

Instructions

  1. Clean and wash the dal and fenugreek leaves.
  2. In a pressure cooker, boil dal along with fenugreek leaves, garlic, green chilies, tomatoes, onion, turmeric, salt and water. You can also pressure cook the dal on medium heat stirring occasionally.
  3. After the dal is done, place it back on the stove top, add lemon juice and allow it to simmer for 3-4 minutes. You may adjust the consistency as desired.
  4. Heat oil or ghee in a small pan, add sliced garlic and fry till golden. Add the red button chilies, fry for a few seconds and pour over the dal. Make sure the garlic doesn't get burned.
  5. Serve hot with phulka or rice.
