About Ragi Idli Recipe

Idli is a staple food for breakfast in south india. Its much healthy and loved by all ages. This ragi idli is a slight variation which makes it more nutritious.

Ragi Idli

Ingredients to make Ragi Idli

  • Parboiled rice 2 cups
  • urad dal 1/2 cup
  • Ragi flour 1 cup
  • salt 2 tsp
  • water as needed

How to make Ragi Idli

  1. Wash rice and urad dal well and soak in water separately for about 2 hours.
  2. Grind the urad dal first in a blender till smooth and fluffy. Next grind rice to a smooth paste. Do not add too much water.
  3. Mix ragi in 1 cup of water till it forms a smooth paste without any lumps. Mix in both the batters and salt.
  4. Mix the batter with your hand, because the warmth of our hand helps in the fermentation.
  5. Let the batter ferment for about 8 hours or overnight. Once the fermented batter rises up, mix it well with a spoon.
  6. Grease your Idli plates of the Idli maker, spoon in the batter and steam for about 15 minutes.
  7. Once the idli is ready remove it from the pot and let it cool. Remove and serve with sambar and chutney.
