This simple, rustic dish is easy to make and will comfort your foodie soul.

Gongura Chana Dal/ Daal

Ingredients to make Gongura Chana Dal/ Daal

  • 1/2 cup chana dal
  • 2 bunches Gongura (sorrel leaves)
  • 1 onion chopped finely
  • 4 to 5 green chillies slit into 2 pieces
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powderi
  • 2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 2 tbsp Oil/ghee
  • 1 tsp garlic paste
  • 8 curry leaves
  • 1 tsp Rai
  • 3 red chillies
  • 1 tsp jeera
  • 1 tsp Urad daal
  • 3 cups of water
  • salt to taste

How to make Gongura Chana Dal/ Daal

  1. Soak chana daal for 30 mins in luke warm water.
  2. In a vessel add chana daal, urad dal, turmeric, onion and water. Cook till daal is half cooked.
  3. Add gongura leaves, chilli powder and salt. Close the lid and cook at medium flame for 10 mins.
  4. In another pan, heat oil/ghee and add curry leaves, rai, jeera , chana daal, red chilli, curry leaves and garlic paste.
  5. Pour this tempering over the daal. Serve piping hot with chapatis/freshly boiled rice.
