Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 2 karela (bittergourd)
  2. 2 potatoes
  3. 1 onion
  4. 1/2 tsp mustard oil
  5. salt
  6. turmeric
  7. Lime juice
  8. Fresh coriander leaves

Instructions

  1. Wash and peel off potatoes. Chop into big chunks
  2. Wash bitter gourd. Chop into big pieces
  3. Add both to a pressure cooker and pour some water enough to cover the veggies.
  4. Add salt and turmeric.
  5. Give three whistles.
  6. Allow the pressure to settle.
  7. Let the veggies cool down before taking them out of the cooker.
  8. Use a potato masher or your hands to mash boiled bitter gourd and potato.
  9. Add chopped onion to the mashed veggies.
  10. Take a salt test.
  11. Pour mustard oil over the bharta. Mix with a spoon or hands until it is well incorporated.
  12. Sprinkle lime juice and serve as an accompaniment with rice.
  13. Garnish with coriander leaves.
