ABOUT Pearl Millet- Green gram Payasam RECIPE

A gluten free and delicious payasam without milk. It can be offered as Naivedhyam to the deity.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Pearl millet – 1 ½ tablespoon
  2. Roasted Green gram – 1 ½ tablespoon
  3. Jaggery (grated) – 2 to 3 tablespoon
  4. Clarified butter/ghee – 2 to 3 tablespoon
  5. Cardamom powder – ½ teaspoon
  6. Dry fruits – Almonds , Raisins etc
  7. Water - 1.5 Cups

Instructions

  1. Soak Pearl millet for about 3 hours and the roasted green gram for about 15 minutes.After they get soaked , drain the water.
  2. Pour water in a pressure cooker, add the soaked pearl millet and green gram.Pressure cook for about ‘5’ whistles over a low flame.
  3. Turn off the flame, keep it aside to cool.
  4. Once it attains room temperature , remove the lid. Add 2 tablespoons of grated jaggery and mix it well.
  5. Heat clarified butter/ ghee in a shallow pan. Add almonds and raisins to it and fry them until they turn golden in color.
  6. Add this fried mix to the above prepared payasam. Stir it well and add the cardamom powder .
  7. Serve cold/at room temperature.
