ABOUT Baked Beetroot Shakkarpara RECIPE

Beetroot shakkarpara is a healthy and nutritive snack that could be munched on without any regrets. Using wholewheat flour and beetroot as the main ingredients, this snack is truely a healthy one. No maida and no frying in oil. Only the benefits of whole wheat, beetroot, sesame and a bit of ghee. You could relish this dish totally guilt free and it goes perfectly with a cup of hot tea. No one could make out that beetroot is added, and so can be easily served to kids who dislikes beets otherwise. Here is how to make this interesting dish.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Beetroot pulp 1/4 cup
  2. Wholewheat flour 3/4 cup
  3. Sugar 1/4 cup
  4. Sesame seeds 1 tbsp
  5. Salt a pinch
  6. Ghee 2 tbsp
  7. Water 2-3 tbsp (as required)

Instructions

  1. After peeling the beetroots, cook them in water until tender. Then grate and grind to form a paste with the water used for cooking. (I used 2 small beetroots which yielded 1/4 cup of pulp).
  2. Now mix together the whole wheat flour, beet pulp, sugar, salt, ghee, sesame seeds with water as required to form a soft dough.
  3. Then preheat the oven to 180 degree centigrade.
  4. Take a ball of dough and roll it to form a thin roti. Prick holes on it evenly using a fork.
  5. Now cut diamond or square shapes.
  6. Place them on a baking tray and bake for 15 minutes, flipping them all once after 8 minutes.
  7. Allow to cool and enjoy these crispy, delicious and healthy bake, totally guilt-free.
