Gâteau au Citron or French-Style Yogurt Cake with lemon is a delicious cake bursting with a citrus flavour. Serve it as dessert or enjoy with tea.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. 1 and ½ cups all purpose flour
  2. 1 cup sugar
  3. ½ cup plain yogurt
  4. ½ cup olive oil / canola oil
  5. 3 eggs
  6. 2 teaspoons baking powder
  7. 2 teaspoons lemon zest
  8. For the glaze -Juice from two lemons , ½ cup powdered sugar


  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
  2. In a large bowl, mix in the yogurt and sugar. Add eggs and stir until well blended.
  3. Whisk flour with baking powder.
  4. Add flour to the wet ingredients, then add zest. Add oil and stir. The batter looks shaggy at this point. Keep stirring till it becomes smooth.
  5. Grease and line a 6 inch round cake tin. Pour the batter and bake for 30 to 35 minutes or till a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Remove from the tin after 10 minutes. Cool in the rack.
  7. To prepare the glaze, mix sugar and lemon juice. Pour evenly over the cooled cake.
