Beetroot boosts haemoglobin levels, prevents signs of ageing,controls diabetes and improves stamina, works as a body cleanser. Inspired from festive foods , I prepared the sweet. Also there is no artificial color used. Happy and safe deepavali.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Bengal gram flour/Besan - 1 cup
  2. sugar - 1 cup
  3. Clarified butter/Ghee-3 tablespoon
  4. Cardamom- 5
  5. almonds - 5
  6. Raisins-10
  7. Water- 1/2 cup
  8. Oil/Ghee-for frying
  9. Beetroot juice - as required


  1. Heat a pan. Add ghee to it and fry the chopped almonds and raisins. Keep it aside.
  2. Sieve the gram flour, transfer it to a bowl and add beet juice to make a thin consistency ( flowing ) .
  3. Take another pan , pour ghee into it and once the ghee is hot , pour one ladle of boondi batter over the boondi ladle and spread it gently to see round shaped boondi falling into the pan.
  4. Deep fry them on a medium flame.Then transfer the boondi into a vessel.
  5. Repeat the above process with the remaining boondi batter to get more number of boondis.
  6. Simultaneously ,heat a pan. Pour 1 part of water and add 1/2 part of sugar to it. Allow it to boil until a half string consistency is obtained . Then turn off the flame.
  7. Add ghee , already fried dry fruits to the boondi mix and transfer this to the sugar syrup. Mix this gently.
  8. Take a handful of the above mix and make round shaped ladoos.
  9. Let them cool to room temperature. Then store the ladoos in an airtight container. These can be stored for a week.
