ABOUT Falafel Cigars RECIPE

When you have boiled chickpeas leftover and you want to make something beyond chickpea salad and hummus ; go for it!!! The white chickpeas are ground to make cigars which are known as Falafel cigars. This is traditional middle eastern food.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 1 cup white Chickpea
  2. 1 tbsp chopped onion
  3. 1 tsp Chopped corriander
  4. 3/4 tsp salt
  5. 1 / 2 tsp chilli powder
  6. 1 tsp Lemon juice
  7. 1 tbsp refined flour ( maida )
  8. Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Soak chickpeas in water overnight or at least for five hours.
  2. Boil the soaked chickpeas . Take out and cool and drain all water.
  3. Mash the boiled chickpeas with a laddle and add salt, chilli powder, chopped onion, chopped corriander, lemon juice and maida.
  4. Toss it well and make cigars. You can give any desired shape of patties as well.
  5. Keep them in fridge for half an hour.
  6. Heat oil for frying.First put in a small ball of mixture to check your cigars are not splitting and oil is ready to fry. If they split means binding agent I.e. maida is less and you can add a bit more .You can also add bread crumbs.
  7. Deep fry all cigars carefully one by one and remove excess oil on tissue paper.
  8. Enjoy your crunchy cigars.!!!
