ABOUT Biri Chop RECIPE

Aloo-Chop is recreated using the batter of whole Urad which is known as Biri-chop in Odisha. Biri chop is a traditional dish which is a Crowd-pleaser. Also perfect for brunch in the festive season.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 cup Whole Urad
  2. 1 cup Boiled potato
  3. 1 Onion
  4. Garlic paste 1 tsp
  5. Mustard seed 1 tsp
  6. Cumin powder 1 tsp
  7. Chopped Green Chili 1 tbsp
  8. Curry leaves 2 sprig
  9. 1.5 tsp Salt
  10. 200 ml Cooking Oil

Instructions

  1. Soak the whole urad in water for 3 hours.Drain out the water and make a fine smooth paste in a mixie.
  2. In a pan heat 2 tbsp oil. Add mustard seed and let it splutter. Add chopped onion, chopped green chili and fry for a minute. Add garlic paste and fry at medium flame.Add mashed boiled potato, cumin powder and mix well.
  3. Cool this mixture. Make lemon sized small balls using this mixture.
  4. Take urad batter in a bowl. Add chopped curry leaves and salt to taste. Mix it well.
  5. Heat oil in a Kadai/pan for frying the fritters.Dip one potato ball in urad dal batter and put into the hot oil. Repeat this process with all potato balls.Fry for 2 to 3 minute at medium flame until they are light brown in color.
  6. Serve hot with Tomato-chutney or any Dip of your choice.
