ABOUT Donuts RECIPE

Donuts are not very sweet from within but their glaze and decoration makes it a 'sweet snack'. Inspired from nishamadhulika.com

Ingredients Serving: 10

  1. All-purpose flour (Maida) 250 grams
  2. Butter 3 to 4 tablespoons (softened)
  3. Dry active yeast 1 teaspoon
  4. Lukewarm milk 3/4 cup (200 ml)
  5. Vanilla essence 1 1/2 teaspoon
  6. Sugar 4 teaspoons
  7. Salt 1/3 teaspoon (omit if using salted butter)
  8. Oil for frying and greasing
  9. Icing sugar 1 cup
  10. White chocolate 150 grams
  11. Milk chocolate 150 grams
  12. Sprinkles
  13. Crushed chocolate
  14. Crushed nuts

Instructions

  1. To the lukewarm milk, add yeast and sugar. Cover and place it in a warm place for 10-15 minutes or until it turns frothy.
  2. Take maida in a kneading plate and add butter, yeast mixture, vanilla essence and sugar and start kneading the dough. Sprinkle some more flour if you feel the dough is sticky. After 7 minutes of kneading form a big ball of it.
  3. Grease a big bowl with some oil and keep the dough in it. Apply some more oil over the dough and cover the bowl and keep in a warm place for about 90 minutes.
  4. Take the dough out gently and roll it using a rolling pin. Dust with some flour. Just roll it of about 1-1.5 cm. thick. Using a drinking glass cut circles and using a bottle cap, cut donut holes.
  5. Leave the donuts for 30 minutes or until they double in size. Heat enough oil in a wok. Once it is medium hot, fry donuts until they turn light brown.
  6. For glazing, just mix the icing sugar, 3-4 tsp water and vanilla essence and dip hot donuts in it. Keep these on a wire rack to cool.
  7. For decoration, melt both the chocolates and dip the donuts in them and decorate them as you like. Sprinkle some sprinkles and crushed nuts/chocolate to make them look even better!
