ABOUT Dahi vada RECIPE

Dahi vadas are fried lentil vadas dipped in yogurt.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 1 cup urad dal
  2. 4 green chillies
  3. 1/2" ginger
  4. Salt to taste
  5. Oil for frying
  6. For the topping
  7. 3 cups curd
  8. 1 tsp red chilli powder
  9. 1 tsp roasted cumin powder
  10. 2 tbsp Coriander leaves chopped
  11. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak the urad dal in water for 3-4 hours prior to the cooking
  2. Drain out the water and grind the dal to a fine paste, using little water.The paste should be of pouring consistency and not very thick.
  3. Add chopped Ginger, green chillies and salt to the paste Mix thoroughly and keep beating the mixture to incorporate air in the mixture.
  4. In a kadhai heat oil for frying. When hot , drop medium sized balls of the batter in the oil.
  5. The vadas should not be too large Fry the vadas till golden brown in colour.
  6. When done remove the vadas n drained off the excess oil.keep aside for a few minutes and soak the vadas in water with little yoghurt mixed in it
  7. In another bowl beat the yoghurt in a thick flowing paste. Remove the vadas from the water by lightly squeezing the excess water.Try not to break the vadas.Dip each vada in the beaten curd ( yoghurt).
  8. Place the vadas in a serving plate and top it again with the beaten curd.
  9. Garnish with roasted cumin powder, red chilli powder n little salt.lastly Garnish with chopped Corainder leaves.
