Ingredients to make Breton Cake

  • 300 grams all purpose flour
  • 226 grams butter
  • 225 grams sugar
  • 6 egg yolks
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg, beaten lightly

How to make Breton Cake

  1. Preheat the oven to 176 degrees celsius.
  2. Take a bowl, put in the butter and sugar together and beat it with the help of an electric mixer till it is light and fluffy.
  3. Next add in the vanilla and yolks one at a time and continue beating it after each addition. Then put in the flour and salt and beat till the ingredients combine together. (However make sure you do not over do the mixing process.)
  4. Pour this batter into a 9-inch tart pan. Place this pan in the refrigerator for 15 minutes so that it sets.
  5. After this time, take it out and brush the top with a beaten egg. Using a fork, make a criss-cross pattern on top and brush it again with the egg.
  6. Bake this cake for 50 minutes till it is deep golden brown in colour and the edges easily pull away from the sides.
  7. Once cooked, transfer it to a wire rack to cool. Then remove the cake from the pan and slice it while it is still warm.
  8. Serve instantly to enjoy!
