ABOUT Black Pomfret Green Curry RECIPE

Black pomfret is popularly known as Halwa in Maharashtra region. It is used in curries or fried and served. It is delicious fish curry and mainly prepared in Goa, South, Maharashtra region. This recipe I have learned from my granny.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Black Pomfret or Halwa fish pieces – 4-5
  2. For Marination – Lemon juice – 1 tbsp
  3. Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
  4. Salt 1/4 tsp
  5. For green Masala - Fresh grated coconut – 1/2 cup
  6. Tomato – 1 medium , finely chopped
  7. Coriander seeds – 1/2 tbsp.
  8. Chopped coriander leaves – 1/2 cup
  9. Green chilies slit – 3
  10. Ginger – 1/2 inch
  11. Garlic cloves – 4-5
  12. Tamarind paste – 1 tsp
  13. Kokum water/juice (Thick, unsweetened) – 1/2 tbsp.
  14. Water – 1/4 cup
  15. For Tempering – Onion – 1/4 medium chopped finely
  16. Cardamom - 1
  17. Oil– 1 tbsp.
  18. For Curry - Salt as per taste
  19. Water 1 cup or as required to adjust the consistency.

Instructions

  1. Marinate fish with Lemon juice, turmeric powder and salt for 30 minutes.
  2. For Green Paste: Blend fresh grated coconut, Tomato, Coriander seeds, Chopped coriander leaves, Green chilies, Ginger, garlic cloves, tamarind paste, kokum water into a fine paste. Keep it aside.
  3. In a wok, heat oil, add cardamom . Sauté for few seconds.
  4. Add finely chopped onion. Cook until translucent.
  5. Add green paste, kokum water and stir well. Add water. Cook it for 8-9 minutes
  6. Add fish pieces to curry
  7. Cook for another 6-7 minutes.
  8. Garnish it with chopped coriander leaves. Serve hot with Rice.
