ABOUT Palak Dal Shorba RECIPE

This is a very nutritious and a delicious soup. As Palak (spinach) and tuvar dal contains lot of vitamins, iron, proteins and fibre, it is a very healthy option. Relish it with some bread sticks for a wholesome meal. It is a great comfort soup during a cold winter night.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. 2 cups, spinach, chopped
  2. 1/2 cup Toor dal
  3. 1 onion, chopped
  4. 1 inch ginger, chopped
  5. 2-3 garlic cloves, chopepd
  6. 2 tbsp. olive oil
  7. salt to taste
  8. 1/2 tsp. turmeric powder
  9. 1 tsp. coriander-cumin powder
  10. 1/2 tsp. garam masala powder
  11. 1/2 tsp. red chili powder
  12. juice of 1/2 lime
  13. 1 tbsp grated cheese - optional


  1. Soak the dal for 30 minutes. Heat oil in a pan and saute onion, ginger and garlic until onions are light brown.
  2. Add the coriander-cumin powder, turmeric powder, garam masala powder and red chili powder mixed with little water.
  3. Saute for a few seconds. To it, add the dal, spinach, salt and 3 cups water. Pressure cook for 3 whistles.
  4. When cool, blend in a mixer, add lime juice and heat through. Serve, garnished with cheese on the top.
