ABOUT Green Chicken Masala RECIPE

Chicken prepared in green masala tastes awesome. Less oily and spicy, includes fresh coriander and mint leaves. This dish we prepare at our home on regular basis. Very popular and modified in various regions.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. For Marination - Chicken – 1/2 kg
  2. Turmeric – 1 tsp
  3. Salt – 1/2 tsp
  4. Lemon juice – 1 tbsp
  5. For Green Masala: – Fresh Coriander leaves – 1/2 cup Roughly chopped
  6. Fresh grated or sliced Coconut- 10-12 tbsp.
  7. Pudina or Mint Leaves – 1/4 cup
  8. Garlic cloves – 4-5
  9. Ginger – 1/2 inch peeled and cut into slices
  10. Green Chilies – 3-4
  11. Roasted Whole Coriander seeds – 1/2 tbsp.
  12. Roasted Cumin seeds – 2 tsp
  13. Water – 1/4 cup
  14. For Tempering – Onion – 1 Small – Finely Chopped
  15. Tomato – 1 medium finely chopped
  16. Chicken Garam masala –1.5 tsp
  17. Oil – 1 tbsp
  18. Salt to taste
  19. Water as required to adjust consistency.

Instructions

  1. Marinate chicken with lemon juice, turmeric and salt. Rest aside for 45 minutes – 1 hour.
  2. Blend roasted whole coriander seeds and roasted cumin seeds into fine powder.
  3. Add Coriander leaves, Fresh grated or sliced Coconut, Pudina or Mint Leaves, Ginger, Green Chillies. Blend well to form smooth green paste
  4. Heat oil in a pan or wok. Add finely chopped onion and salt. Cook till golden brown
  5. Add finely chopped tomato. Cover and cook till it become soft and mushy
  6. Add garam masala. Saute for few seconds.
  7. Add green masala paste. Cook stirring often until it changes its color and starts thickening
  8. Add marinated chicken. Mix well. Coat well with masala.
  9. Stir and cook for 3-4 minutes.
  10. Add 1.5 cups water. Bring to boil and cook on medium low flame for 15-20 minutes or until chicken is tender and gravy has thickened slightly.
  11. Serve hot with chapati, rice or naan or rice crepes.
