ABOUT Green Chili Techa RECIPE

Techa is a traditional Maharashtrian condiment which usually been prepared using fresh green chillies, garlic, roasted peanuts or fresh coconut, lemon juice and salt. It is best eaten with bhakari, chapati, dal rice. Bhakari, Pithle, peeled and broken onion and techa is known to be farmers meal. Techa is still our staple food and we eat it regularly along with dal and rice or Bhakri, chapati. Earlier we used to grind it using stone grinder or mortar-pestle. It used to taste heavenly. Now it’s been blended using blender due to time shortage and availability of variety of blenders in the market but it cannot bring that flavor and taste to techa which is being prepared using stone grinder or mortar-pestle

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Fresh green Chilies – 9-10 Broken into half.
  2. Garlic cloves – 6-7 coarsely chopped
  3. Coriander powder – 1/2 tsp (Optional)
  4. Grated fresh coconut – 2-3 tbsp
  5. Roasted peanuts – 1.5 tbsp
  6. Juice of 1/2 lemon
  7. Oil – 1 tsp (Optional)
  8. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a thick pan. Add broken green chilies. Cook for 4-5 min. Keep stirring continuously.
  2. Add garlic cloves. Stir continuously until aromatic
  3. Add fresh desiccated coconut. Roast until golden brown.
  4. Add coriander powder. Cook for few seconds.
  5. Add salt. Mix well. Allow to cool
  6. Add roasted peanuts, lemon juice and blend mixture into coarse paste without adding water.
  7. Store in airtight container and refrigerate it. Consume within 3-4 days.
