Basale or malabar spinach is a beautiful , supple green that is pretty common along the coastal regions of karnataka, particularly Mangalore. But its also really flavourful. Both the leaves and stalks can be used for curries. The seafood loving folk of Mangalore often add prawns or mussels to the gravy for even more depth of flavour, but the purely vegetrian version is lip smacking on its own and a great accompaniment to boiled or steamed rice.
