ABOUT MASALA OATS RECIPE

This is such a healthy option for a breakfast or brunch for the pregnant women and elderly people. You can use any vegetables available at home like beans, carrots, capsicums .. etc etc. For flavouring I always try out many variations. Today's dish is with sambar powder flavour. It tasted like bissibella bath. You can go ahead and add even boiled chicken / minced chicken, soya granules etc etc.. If you are making for the kids it is better not to make it very spicy..

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Oats ... 5-6 tbsps
  2. Boiled vegetables - 1 cup
  3. Mustard seeds .. 1 tsp
  4. Cumin seeds .... 1 tsp
  5. Asafoetida ...... a pinch
  6. Sambar powder .. 1 tsp
  7. Turmeric powder .. 1/4 tsp
  8. Red chilli powder .. 1/8 tsp
  9. Salt .............. to taste
  10. Oil or Ghee... 2 tbsps
  11. Coriander leaves .. handful

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add the asafoetida, mustard and cumin seeds.
  2. When they crackle add the oats and saute for a minute on low flame until you get a nice aroma.
  3. Now carefully add 2 cups of water stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
  4. Bring to a boil and simmer. Add the salt and the mentioned spices and simmer.
  5. When the oats are almost cooked, tip in the boiled vegetables and coriander leaves.
  6. Simmer for a minute. The consistency depends on how thick or thin you like it. Add water accordingly. Serve hot.
