This is national and authentic food of Karnataka. Taught by every mom to her daughter, before her wedding, so that she wins the heart of her husband, through his stomach. But in mycase, it is mom-in-law, who taught me how to make BBB. Hope you all try and enjoy

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 cup Rice (we use the regular sona masuri rice)
  2. 2.5 cups of water to cook rice
  3. 1/4 cup peanuts
  4. 3/4th cup of Toor Dal
  5. 1/2 tbsp of Turmeric Powder
  6. 2-3 medium sized Carrots, cubed
  7. 2 Potatoes cubed
  8. 1/4 kg beans chopped
  9. 1/4 cup of peas
  10. 2 Onions, chopped
  11. 2 Tomatoes, finely chopped
  12. 1 small ball of Tamarind, soaked in 3/4 cup of water
  13. 3-4 tbsp of Bisi Bele Bath Masala mixed in 1 cup of water
  14. Salt to taste
  15. Ghee for seasoning
  16. 1/2 tbsp Mustard
  17. 2 red chillies
  18. 1/4 tbsp of Heeng
  19. 8-10 Cashews
  20. 1 sprig of Curry leaves
  21. 5-6 tbsp of Oil

Instructions

  1. In a pressure cooker, add rice and water and cook for 3-4 whistles.
  2. In another pressure cokker, add toor dal, peanuts, chopped vegetables (except onion and tomato), peas, peanuts, turmeric, bit of salt and 3 cups of water and cook for 3-4 whistles.
  3. In a pan, mix tamarind water and Bisi Bele Bath Masala mixed in 1 cup of water and boil them thoroughly.
  4. Once the cookers cool down, now take a big utensil to make Bisi Bele Bath.
  5. Heat Oil in the big utensil. To which, add chopped onions, and fry well. Add tomatoes and fry well. Once the Tomatoes are fried, add 1tbsp of turmeric and fry well. to this add boiled Bisi Bele Bath masala mix and cook well.
  6. Once the masala is cooked, add boiled toor dal and vegetables and stir well.
  7. Add rice and salt and mix well.
  8. BBB should be as watery as possible while cooking, so add additional water, if required. Check for salt, spice and sourness. Add, if anything is needed.
  9. Cook for 8-10 mins on low flame and stir occassionally.
  10. Once BBB is cooked well, turn off the heat.
  11. Heat ghee in kadai, to that add mustard. once it splatters, add cashews, heeng, curry leaves and Red chillies. Add the tadka on top of BBB and mix well.
  12. Serve hot (as Bisi= Hot), with khara boondi/ Aloo Chips and Curd Raita.
