ABOUT Potato Chops RECIPE

Contrary to common notion, I like my starters a tad bit heavy, and hence refrain from the usual canape. I believe slightly heavy starters elongate meals, coax you to space your courses out and hence keeps the conversation going. More quality time with loved ones! And these delicious Indian styled croquettes are perfect for that!

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Potatoes – 1/2 kg, boiled and mashed
  2. Beef Mince – 200 g, boiled
  3. Onion – 1, finely diced
  4. Ginger-Garlic Paste – 1/2 tablespoon
  5. A handful of coriander leaves, coarsely chopped
  6. Cumin Powder – 1/2 teaspoon
  7. Coriander Powder – 1/2 teaspoon
  8. Turmeric Powder – 1/4 teaspoon
  9. Chilli Powder – 1/2 teaspoon (plus more if you prefer spicy food)
  10. Oil – 5 tablespoons for frying
  11. Egg – 1, roughly beaten
  12. Bread Crumbs – 150 g
  13. Salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a shallow pan placed on low flame, sauté onion, beef mince, ginger-garlic paste and coriander leaves until the mince is cooked through and the mixture becomes dry.
  2. Add salt, cumin, coriander, turmeric and chilli powders and sauté for five minutes. Then take it off the heat and keep aside.
  3. Mash potatoes into little rounds with the palms of your hand. Make a hollow in the round with your thumb and fill it with the minced meat mixture.
  4. Then with a small amount of mashed potato, make a flap to cover the hollow, set it in place and lightly press it to seal it. Make sure that the edges of the Potato Chops are not cracked.
  5. Heat oil in a shallow skillet. Dip each Potato Chop into the beaten egg, coating it well; then roll it in the bread crumbs to coat it further.
  6. Place it in the hot oil and fry on each side for about 30 seconds or till golden brown. Serve hot
