ABOUT Fruits and Chocolate Gateau RECIPE

A delectable dessert made of chocolate sponge, fresh fruits and heavy whipped cream. This is perfect for those sweet Valentine cravings with your loved one.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. For Chocolate Sponge:
  2. maida 1 cup
  3. Cocoa powder – 1/4 cup
  4. Soda Bi Carb – 1/2 tsp
  5. Baking powder – 1tsp
  6. Milk maid – 1/2 tin
  7. Vanilla Essence – 1tsp
  8. Powdered sugar – 3tbsp
  9. oil – 1/2 cup
  10. Milk – 1/2 cup
  11. For dressing up:
  12. Bowl of fresh fruits sliced (Apples, Orange, Pomegranate, grapes etc)
  13. Heavy whipped cream 1 Cup
  14. Mixed fruit jam / marmalade 6 tbsp

Instructions

  1. For the sponge:
  2. Grease and dust a 6 inch round cake tin. Preheat oven at 150 degrees Centigrade.
  3. Sift maida, cocoa, soda and baking powder. Beat milkmaid and add sugar and oil. Beat well.
  4. Add vanilla essence or scrape half a vanilla bean. Add half the maida mix by sprinkling over wet ingredients. Add half the milk. Mix well.
  5. Add remaining maida mix and milk and mix to a smooth pouring ribbon consistency. Add soda and mix quickly. Bake at 180 degrees Centigrade for 40 minutes.
  6. Check if done by touching with finger. It should spring back when pressed. Also insert a toothpick and it should come out clean. Let the cake cool for 10 to 20 minutes before taking it out of the tin.
  7. Chocolate sponge is ready!
  8. Cut it in 2 pieces horizontally using a thread or a knife. Now, spread a layer of mix fruit jam / cherry marmalade all over the first layer.
  9. Use a piping bag and spread a layer of whipped cream on the jam. Take a bowl of finely chopped fruits and spread it in the middle.
  10. Arrange the upper layer on top. Now spread the not so whipped cream all over and arrange the slices of fresh fruits over it. Decorate it with sprinklers.
