Chocolate Cake

Ingredients to make Chocolate Cake

  • all purpose flour 1 cup
  • Castor sugar 3/4 cup (1 cup if you like it too sweet)
  • Unsweetened Cocoa powder 1/2 cup
  • Baking powder 1 tsp
  • baking soda 1 tsp
  • Coffee powder 1 tsp (optional)
  • Wet Ingredients:
  • Odourless oil 1/2 cup
  • Hot water 1/2 cup
  • Cold milk 1/2 cup
  • 1 egg whisked separately for 1 minute
  • Vanilla essence 1 tbsp

How to make Chocolate Cake

  1. Preheat the oven at 180 degree centigrade for 8-10 minutes. Prepare a baking tin by lining it with a parchment paper. Grease the surface.
  2. In a bowl take all the dry ingredients and mix it with a dry whisk and keep it aside.
  3. In another bowl add the hot water, oil and whisk it till the mixture looks like an emulsion. Add milk, vanilla essence and whisk again till well combined. Keep it aside for a few minutes for it to cool down.
  4. Whisk one egg for one minute separately and then add it to the cooled wet mixture.
  5. Mix all the wet ingredients and then gradually add it to the dry mixture.
  6. Once completely mixed pour the batter into the baking tin and give it a gentle tap to push out the air bubbles. The batter would be runny but that is what makes the cake moist.
  7. Check in 25 minutes. If a tooth pick inserted in the center comes out clean the cake is ready.

My Tip:

Let the water, oil and milk mixture cool down a bit before you add the egg or the egg will get cooked.
