ABOUT Kappa Puzhungiyathu RECIPE

This is the most traditional breakfast of Kerala People. Tapioca / Cassava known as Kappa Kizhangu is the Staple food of the People of Kerala. I still remember the vacation days when this boiled Tapioca is served with Red chilli chutney as breakfast in my native place. Its very healthy , filling tasting heavenly.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Kappa Kizhangu / Tapioca 1 kg
  2. Salt to tatse
  3. Turmeric Powder
  4. Baby Onions 15
  5. For Side dish / Dip
  6. Red chillies 8
  7. Salt to taste
  8. Tamarind a gooseberry size
  9. Coconut oil 2 table spoons

Instructions

  1. Remove the skin and cut them in to big chunks.
  2. Boil surplus water in a vessel with salt and turmeric powder.
  3. Add the Tapioca chunks in to it.
  4. In 10 minutes the chunks will become soft. Take them out.
  5. In a mixer jar add the shallots, salt, red chillies, tamarind and grind coarsely without adding water.
  6. Add coconut oil and mix well.
  7. Serve the Boiled Kappa / Tapioca pieces with the hot spicy chutney and Chai.
