ABOUT Batata/Potato Pohe RECIPE

Slight different version of Kanda poha prepared using boiled potatoes. It is also very popular dish in Maharashtra and consumed in every household on regular basis as a breakfast or evening snack. It is a high carbohydrate, low fat, quick meal that can be made in minutes, available in every tea shops/taparies or hotels in morning and evening time.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Poha or flattened Rice - 1 1/2 cup (washed and drained completely.)
  2. Boiled Potatoes – 2 small or 1 medium. (finely diced)
  3. Mustard Seeds - 1/2 tsp
  4. Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
  5. Curry Leaves - 4-5
  6. Onion medium - 1 finely chopped
  7. Green Chillies - 2 roughly chopped
  8. Finely chopped Coriander leaves - 1 1/2 tbsp.
  9. Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  10. Asafoetida – ¼ tsp
  11. Sugar - 1 tbsp
  12. Oil - 1 tbsp
  13. Roasted crushed Peanuts - 1 1/2 tbsp
  14. Fresh grated Coconut - 1/2 tbsp
  15. Salt to taste
  16. For serving – Small shev, Lemon wedges, finely chopped onion

Instructions

  1. In a wok or nonstick pan heat oil. Add mustard and cumin seeds. Let it splutter.
  2. Add curry leaves and chopped onion. Cook till translucent.
  3. Add roughly chopped green chillies and finely chopped coriander leaves. Cook for few seconds.
  4. Add asafoetida, turmeric, sugar. Mix well till sugar dissolves.
  5. Add salt and boiled potatoes. Mix well till all masalas incorporates well with potato pieces.
  6. Add washed and completely drained poha or flattened rice. Mix it gently or toss it.
  7. Add roasted crushed peanuts and grated coconut. Mix gently.
  8. Top it with any spicy or flavored shev.
  9. Garnish it with lemon wedges and finely chopped onion.
  10. Serve hot with a cup of tea or coffee.
